Dinner Gone Wrong

Im in the mood of blogging. Maybe because so many things happened during the weekend, i just have a lot in mind i want to share with... Um, friends, strangers and stalkers? Lol.

Last night...

*Dup.. Dup.. Dup..* sound effect kena ada.

I went to dinner. With H's family. To celebrate his younger brother, Emir, birthday.

It's very 'standard' for us to gather and go out for dinner whenever there's a birthday in the family. Benda biasa la tu. Normally H's mother will text her family members reminding them of a date they have confirmed to celebrate it so that everyone wil make do and clear their schedule (it's very hard to see all at once due to everyone's hectic schedule and all, now that they have grown up). Im sure u guys do the same too with ur families, to gather when there's a special occassion not because of the food, but to catch up with each other, right? If not, then ure pathetic.

Ok back to the story. H told me a week ago, casually, "b, next sunday birthday emir. Kita gi makan seafood with my family". Oh ok. No prob! Just pick me up and we'll go together then. Simple as that.

H and his family came to my house n pick me up, then off we go to the seafood place. 7 of us in 1 car. Haha. Nasib baik muat. H said naik satu kereta je la. Senang. Ok, im fine with it.

But then in the car, i wondered why h's big brother came along without his fiance. Then i thought, maybe she's working on a sunday night shift (she's a houseman doctor in hospital selayang). Knowing so well the way shift people work, i understand if she had to work during the weekend because mmg norm kan kala weekends the priority always be given to the old married ones, those who have kids at home.

Arriving at the seafood restaurant in subang, we had our dinner, chatted about whats happening recently and whats going to happen... Ala all those standard stuff. Then while i w as talking to h's brother, i told him that my mom wants to give him a holiday voucher as a wedding gift. So i asked him whether he wants to go to langkawi or bali? He said he needed to call his fiance and ask her about it first. Oh ok, sure. And then he left the table.

He came back and said, Langkawi.

Cool.

But then, he turned to his mother..

And asked "mummy, kenapa mummy tak ajak ika dinner sekali?"

With all seriousness on his face.

Knowing this should be a private matter, i tried to divert my attention to h's sister on my left and chatted with her about something else.

But the awkwardness was too much. I could hear h's mother (who sat just next to h sister) replied him that she already asked him to invite his fiance but he was the one who said that his fiance will be busy.

The argument began. The brother said no mom didnt ask him, his fiance is not working today, y didnt u just invite her anyway, blaming the mother.

And i sat there. Uncomfortable with all this. I should give them some privacy so i excused myself to go to the toilet.

And took a fucking long time in there pretending my bladder was full with a 50-gallon water in it.

The longest kencing ever.

Came back to the table and saw everyone's back on a different better topic. I pretended nothing happened and continued my cheerie goodself to kill the awkward feeling inside.

We finished the good dinner afterwards and went back home.

Instead of sending me back the way they picked me up, ive decided to just go to their house and asked h to send me off later. So i lepak-ed at his house chatting with his mom for another hour before deciding to go back, since it's late and i have to work in the morning.

In the car, h brought up the topic again. About what happened when i went to the toilet pretending to pee.

The mother scolded his brother for asking those questions in front of me. It was disrespectful and made me feel uncomfortable. He shoulve asked that when theyre back home. In a way, he also spoiled his younger brother's birthday dinner. His mother was really pissed at the way his brother behaved. I second his mother that he shouldve asked it at home, its a private matter. But im sure that the brother whom i see a bit naive, didnt think when he spoke of that.

It was all just a big misunderstanding. His brother thought HIS MOM invited me directly, when the truth was that his mom just told h about the dinner and H WAS THE ONE who wanted to bring me along to dinner, like "ok mummy nanti i bawak lydia". Simple as that. Then when his brother went to make a call to his fiance, apparently his fiance didnt know i was coming along too and surprised that i was there chatting with him, and so... Merajuk.

Amendeeee laaaaa. H and i were laughing about it because, ok...thing is, his brother n fiance have dated for 7 years already. She has been going to their family dinner and all sorts of other occassions for years before i came into picture. Logically, when u think about it la kan, she is already used to it, to their ways. Sooo i dont see a point y u wouldnt feel like ure invited or, just invite urself if ure already apart of the family. By right this is not an issue at all. Yang abang nya pun patutnya bawak je la dia terus. Busy or not, just invite her. Whether she can come or not, at least she got the invitation.

Case not closed.

So todayyyyy, we all got a text from h's mom.

"salam family, ika's birthday is on the 28th jan. We'll be going back to the seafood restaurant for dinner to celebrate her birthday on the 27th"

Omg.

H immediately call me and talk about it. We were both shocked. Was the merajuk really that bad? Sampai kena ada dinner replacement AT THE SAME PLACE again?

I told h that i am not comfortable with all this. I think im gonna back down. Let her steal the spotlight. Let her get the attention because after all, its her birthday. And i have no prob with it. Im not saying that she wants attention. I just feel that its her day. Let her enjoy it. But h wont let me. He said i should go. But he's not even sure if he'll get an off day on that fate. So it all depends later. To me, i prefer not going. But if h insist, i have to go no matter what.

Awkward. I better shut my mouth during that dinner. Its so obvious his mother enjoys talking to me more. Maybe because we have the same interests. Lol.
